The rise of child and integrative psychotherapy began in February 2015 at the Congress of integrative psychotherapy in Bucharest, when Ken Evans suggested the establishment of European Interdisciplinary Association for Therapeutic Services For Children and Young people, emphasizing the importance of working with children and adolescents. The first Board meeting took place in Rijeka, at fall 2015, when the program was carried out. On the suggestion of Ken Evans, the 2- and 4- year education program was established and the Constitution of European Interdisciplinary Association for Therapeutic Services For Children and Young people was accepted.
It is important to emphasize that, even today, the issue of child and adolescent mental health does not hold the place it should, which is best seen analyzing the existing psychotherapy courses, all directed towards adulthood problems, even though most of those problems have their outbreak in childhood. The complexity of child and adolescent psychotherapy arises from the dependence of children on their families and their evaluations, opinions, attitudes and beliefs, as well as the environment the child is growing up in. Psychotherapy should, among children, include the family, school and the environment, which often faces resistance. Unfortunately, we are much more aware of the trauma that arises from different forms of abuse, family dissents, wars, refugees and exiles, which withholds children their basic needs and requires a well-educated approach filled with love, knowledge and understanding.
The first nine psychotherapists in Bosnia and Herzegovina opened a path to the future child and adolescent psychotherapists and the interest and presence of Assistant Minister for International Security and Coordination of Strategy Development of Ministry of Health, television, journalists, school, education and training representatives points out the awareness of the problems with children and adolescents, in terms of the need to induce further education and make more programs with the goal of creating a happy childhood for children and adolescents and preserving their mental health.
BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA GOT THE FIRST GENERATION OF CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPIST
Azra Arnautović, Belma Žiga, Đana Lončarica, Mirela Badurina, Mirjana Gavrić-Hopić, Sabina Zijadić-Husić, Selma Gaši, Senka Čimpo i Srebrenka Hota are the first generation of graduate children and adolescent integrative psychotherapists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, promoted today in Sarajevo.
In 2015, BHIDAPA launched the first accredited European educational program in BiH for children and adolescents of Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, in accordance with European Standards and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Mirela Badurina, a psychotherapist, pointed out that the graduates completed their studies under the program that the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Association for Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (BHIDAPA) initiated for obtaining a degree in children’s and adolescent psychotherapy bearing in mind the importance and needs for that such trained professionals.
– Research shows that every fourth child of early adolescent suffering and at risk of developing mental disorders. On the other hand, in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a lace of personnel and professionals whose working with children and adolescents. We do not have more time, we need to work together and to cooperate well to preserve the child – said Badurina.
Great merit for young psychotherapist success had and their professor Dubravka Kocijan-Hercigonja, Vera Daneš-Brozek and Lidija Petocić, which comprised the Committee for the defence of final case study. After the oath, the students gave their professor Dubravka Kocijan-Hercigonja tribute song.

Integration of psychotherapeutic approaches in the therapeutic process of children and adolescents
The aim of psychotherapy is to assist children and adolescents in organizing optimal development, taking into account the constitutional and maturation characteristics, as well as the characteristics of the environment. It is, thus, necessary to use different psychotherapeutic approaches depending on the specificity of the developmental phase, as well as the specificity of the problem, all modified by the child’s cognitive and developmental state. It is important to emphasize the need to modify therapeutic approaches from session to session, all depending on the observed behavior. An important issue in working with children and adolescents is how to achieve therapeutic alliance, how to modify the approach in a way that a child shows emotions, especially an abused child, as well as what is the child’s potential to change.
One of the problems in child and adolescent psychotherapy is the complexity of the transfer because the child lives with his / her own object as well as the environment that affects the transfer, and the therapist brings not only his professionalism, but also his personal child experiences to the relationship.
All this indicates the complexity and specificity of children’s psychotherapy and the necessity of not only knowing the children’s specificity in relation to the developmental stages, but also the knowledge of different therapeutic approaches that are incorporated into the therapeutic process, depending on the situation or the therapeutic process.

Again, this year we are organized a “Summer School of Children and Adolescent Integrative Psychotherapy”. This “Summer School” will present work with children and young people through the use of Projective Techniques, and will provide practicums skill workshops regarding so called Unresolved Transgenerational Issues of children and adolescents.
Children are from the early childhood “forced” to use a largely dominant left hemisphere to develop cognition, for which they are rewarded, and the activities of the right hemispheres are largely neglected, although they are in the sense very important for successful cognitive growth.
In psychotherapy, besides the dominant left hemisphere of the brain, which is in control of information, concepts, ideas, it is also good to use the right hemisphere of the brain that brings implications, new meannings, associations and allows circularity in interpersonal relationships. Using the right hemisphere is based on the assumption that a story or an image can represent the inner or outer reality of a person. It can lead to a change in the inner reality, as well as to a differences in an understanding of external reality.
This Summer School aim is to raise an awareness of some more creative ways to work with children, such as using fairy tales, charts/maps, dreams and more.
Participants would hopefuly gain some new experiences and knowledge in somewhat different way.
